Natural Prairie Wilderness

Charleswood’s Harte Trail

Our Pride

Our popular trail is part of the Trans Canada Trail and runs through a narrow strip of wilderness on an old railway bed after the Prairie Dogs historic last run. The path is intersected by half a dozen streets of Charleswood. Its name is taken from the Harte Line, the first section of Grand Trunk Pacific Railway built in western Canada in 1894.

Our Beginning

In 1999, Friends of the Harte Trail group formed with a constitution, shortly after the Harte Trail grand opening July 1, 2000 coinciding with the Trans Canada Trail Relay 2000. Ceremonial waters from the Pacific and Atlantic were carried by relay teams that eventually met in Ottawa.

Our Mission

The Friends of the Harte Trail ensure the trails natural beauty is maintained, the trail is safe along with the folks that enjoy it, reminding everyone its our responsibility to ensure its longevity.

“A happy and healthy community is not a fairytale. All you need is a volunteer.”

— Barb hutton, PAST president
